Senior: Rhinelander III 14, Rhinelander II 9

With Rhinelander III and II combining for 23 runs, offensive power definitely punctuated the first game of Monday's Northwoods Babe Ruth doubleheader at Stafford Field.

Rhinelander III burst out of the starting gate, cycling through the entire batting order to the tune of six hits and four runs. They kept the pressure by reaching the base paths eight more times in the next three innings, while Rhinelander II couldn't seem to find its rhythm.

Things changed in the fifth inning when Brevin Persike ignited the Rhinelander II offense with a much-needed RBI. The momentum carried to the sixth inning where Rhinelander II walked five times, and the seventh when two walks, a triple, and a single led to three RBIs to close the lead. But Rhinelander III's consistent scoring was too much and they emerged with the hard-fought victory.

Will Taege had two singles and a walk, while Adam Mueller went 2-4 with a single and a triple for Rhinelander III. Ben Quade and Tyler Blomdahl pitched.

Trey Gwin started on the mound for Rhinelander II. At the plate, he notched a single and a two-run double. Ramon Elizondo had two walks and a groundout RBI. Travis Young had a single and two walks.

Senior: Rhinelander I 9, Laser Pros 2

In the second contest Monday, Rhinelander I proved to be too much for Laser Pros International.

The game was scoreless through four innings before Rhinelander I made a push, scoring three in the fifth. Laser Pros was able to answer back with two of its own in the fifth but that paled in comparison to what Rhinelander I had in store.

Rhinelander I went off for six runs in the final inning, with their entire order seeing the plate. The inning saw a little of everything, from hit batters to singles, walks and errors. Laser Pros couldn't answer back and the game was carried to its final tally.

Senior: Rhinelander II 6, Laser Pros 1

Rhinelander II defeated Laser Pros 6-1 Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader at Stafford Field.

Both teams were trying to rebound from losses Monday night. Neither team was very effective swinging the bat, as Rhinelander II notched four hits while Laser Pros posted just one through the full seven innings.

However Rhinelander II was able to capitalize on Laser Pro mistakes, leading them to the victory 6-1. Further details were not immediately available.

Senior: Rhinelander III 8, Rhinelander I 7

Rhinelander III edged Rhinelander I 8-7 in the nightcap Tuesday to move into first place in the Northwoods Babe Ruth Senior League.

Featuring solid offensive and defensive plays, and an excellent ending, this game had it all.

Both teams opened with goose eggs to begin the contest, before knocking in one run a piece in the second inning. Brandon Hess and Ben Quade both scored for Rhinelander II in the third inning before Rhinelander I answered in the fourth with three runs of its own. Zach Johnston, Timmy Palubicki, and Scott Fox all scored in succession to give Rhinelander I a 4-3 lead. Rhinelander II would notch two more runs in the fifth to bring the score to a 5-4 margin. Things would stay that way until the final inning.

Rhinelander I flipped the game around in the top of the seventh with three straight RBIs to take a 7-5 lead.

Rhinelander III had one last shot and came up big, scoring three runs of the own with the help of Kurt Zuiker, Ben Quade, and Cole Jensen to win the contest.
