The Rhinelander High School Class of 2013 is ready to step into the bright lights of the real world.

After receiving their diplomas Sunday, the 217 graduates are primed, pumped, and ready for all of the challenges and adventures that await them outside of the familiar walls of high school.

"We are a class that not only talks about our dreams, but we are a class that pursues our dreams. Sitting in front of you, ladies and gentlemen, are future teachers, medical professionals, counselors, policemen, and even some FBI agents," senior speaker Alexandra Peter told the crowd of parents, grandparents, siblings, and district staff. "We went from being little kids imagining what they will be when they grow up to actually going after our dreams. We started this journey together and now we are finishing it together."

Peter went on to say she knows her fellow graduates will achieve their goals.

"As each and every one of us graduates today, I have full confidence that we will fulfill our dreams and we will make Rhinelander proud," she said.

Valedictorian Melissa Sheth echoed Peter's remarks.

"I see each and every one of you contributing something magnificent to our society," Sheth told her classmates."We all want to achieve great happiness and success and now we're taking that first important step by graduating. Be proud of your accomplishments. We all have bright futures ahead of us so go ahead and be excited. Life isn't always golden roses, I'm sure you know, but there are plenty of wonderful opportunities before you. Push yourself to do your best."

Both students took time to thank their teachers and administrators, but Principal David Ditzler made it a point to let the students know that he and his staff learned a lot from them as well.

"It is an honor to stand before this group of students. In my 23 years in public education, as a teacher and an administrator, I have never seen such an outstanding group of students. Some of their accomplishments include over 7,000 A's and B's in their four-year career, 138 (Advanced Placement) tests written with over 13 of them by one student, countless musical and dramatic performances, numerous conference athletic championships, state championships in (the Future Business Leaders of America), Mock Trial, one robot, a house, senior projects, countless hours of community service, workplace learning skills dunk tanks, the van, I could go on and on. These kids have accomplished much," Ditzler said.

"It has been a privilege to tease you in the hallways, sit with you at lunch, watch you at games, peek through the doors to see you in the classrooms, to learn from you, live with you, and, along with the teaching staff, hopefully we've been able to show you how big our world can be. Today, we say, go out there and be excellent. Don't ever forget your Hodag roots, but go be excellent and change the world for better purposes."
