Little League: Rhinelander 10Us remain in winners' bracket
The win moved the Hodags to 2-0 in the double-elimination District 5 tournament.
Fortier, a lefty, struck out seven and walked one.
Leading 1-0 heading to the bottom of the third, the Hodags played small ball to break the game open. Joe Schneider and Isaac Bixby executed back to back bunt singles. A subsequent throwing error allowed a run to the plate to get the Hodags on the board. After Fortier was hit by a pitch, Payton Johnson delivered a two-run single to give the Hodags all the offense they would need.
Rhinelander would tack on two more runs in the fifth.
Johnson went 2-for-3 to pace the offense. Also collecting hits were Fortier and Quinn Lamers.
The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed a day because of thunderstorms.
The Hodags advanced to face Lakeland in the winners' bracket thanks to a 10-0, five-inning win over Merrill Monday.
Isaac Bixby pitched four efficient innings, giving up just two hits and a walk, to go along with two strikeouts. Fortier closed the game on the mound striking out all three batters he faced in the final frame.
Fortier led the Hodags Monday going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Walker Hartman, Joe Schneider, Lamers and Tim Fox all collected hits to help with the offensive attack.
Rhinelander will face Antigo, the only other undefeated team remaining in the tournament, Tuesday at Doepke Park in Rib Mountain. First pitch will be at 5 p.m.
