Rhinelander Swim Club competes in regional championships
Two lucky young swimmers will be traveling to Madison on this weekend for the 12 and Under State Meet. Joseph Heck, 10, qualified for state in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 19.30 second and the 50 backstroke (38.54). Sayge Stojadinovic, 10, qualified in the 50 freestyle (31.72).
Jack Antonuk, 8, continued his great season by taking 5.16 seconds off his 50 freestyle (37.63). He took first overall in two events and won the high points award for his age division.
Joseph Heck took 5.98 seconds from his 100 backstroke, 14.47 seconds from his 100 breaststroke (1:45.63), took first overall in two events and brought home a second-place high points plaque for his age division. Thaddeus Heck, 10, came home with a first place overall.
Valarie Puza, 14, dropped time in three events. She shaved 13.08 seconds in the 200 backstroke (2:50.14), 9.63 seconds in the 200 freestyle (2:27.50) and 13.67 seconds in the 200 breaststroke (3:03.44).
Russell Benoy, 11, cut an amazing 29.85 seconds from his 500 freestyle (6:52.34). Charlie Heck, 8, dropped 6.18 second in the 50 freestyle (42.02). Grace Heck, 12, took off 5.14 seconds in the 100 individual medley (1:23.32) and 5.36 seconds in the 200 freestyle (2:33.34). Maria Heck, 8, took off 5.50 seconds in the 100 IM (1:53.60). Taylor Hollands, 11, dropped 7.01 seconds in the 100 freestyle (1:19.77). Alex Peter, 17, shaved 5.54 seconds in the 200 backstroke (2:48.98).
Several swimmers also qualified to attend the Midwest Regional Meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on March 23-24.
