The countdown to 2014 has begun. Northwoods residents are already thinking about how they intend to improve their lives, while hoping the new year comes new energy and hope for the future.

The River News asked a few local residents to share their resolutions. Here are their answers:

"I have cancer and I would like to be better in the new year and not get any form of cancer." - Maxine Gleesing

"To continue learning and living what I've learned this past year because I've learned some good stuff." - Kelli Nellis

"I would listen better to my parents." - Payton Volkening

The River News also asked a few Northwoods residents what they are most looking forward to as 2014 begins.

Here's what they said:

"Good health for my family and education for my grandchildren." - Pat Kuczmarski

"Other than warmer weather? Fun." - Sandra Retherford

"New exciting things, might be getting a new job, might be moving, new opportunities." - Gary Boyle

"Continued good health." - Keith Mayo

"Having some good times, trying out my new Christmas present which is a kayak." - Cheryl Hobbs
