Local restaurants partner with school district for Share Nights
By Kayla Breese-
It was the first time that the public charter school from Harshaw did a Share Night. Six teachers, three PAC members, the principal and a substitute teacher volunteered to serve food.
"We raise money and then we use it to spend it on things for the kids that the school district can't pay for," said Jen Rudawski, president of the NCES Parent Advisory Committee. "We help them pay for the field trips and we help fund those kind of activities for the kids."
Rudawski was inspired by schools in southern Wisconsin who had been participating in Share Nights. McDonald's approached the schools there and has been working with them for the past three years.
"It's something that our company does down south in West Bend so we want to move it up north to help the community," said Frieda Maertz, district manager of McDonald's. "We want to give back to the community so that's a good way that we can do that, starting through the school."
NCES was elated when Culver's expressed an interest in having a Share Night.
"We are just grateful that Culver's is being generous this year and I know they supported the other schools and the middle school that was here and the homeless shelter and if it's an opportunity that we have available next year I imagine that we'd consider it but we are just grateful to be here tonight," said NCES principal Wil Losch.
The School District of Rhinelander is grateful to the businesses who work with them to help fund certain activities for children.
"(Culver's) has been very gracious with all of our schools. I'm sure that schools would want to continue that partnership. It's a wonderful opportunity for us," School District of Rhinelander Superintendent Kelli Jacobi said. "It's wonderful when community partners can work together to benefit the students of the district and it's appreciated."
Josh and Jen Clark, owners of the Rhinelander Culver's, enjoy participating in events with various organizations. They provided the venue and food while the school or organization promotes Share Night.
"We are always interested in partnering up with local schools and local organizations to give back to the community," said Josh Clark. "Obviously we can only do so many as our time allows us but we are definitely interested in partnering up with other groups."
Clark has discussed partnering with groups twice a year, once in the winter and once in either spring or fall, to see how the events do.
