Estabrook a finalist in 'Feed Your Better' contest
By Kayla Breese-
"Feed Your Better" is sponsored by Arnold, Brownberry and Oroweat bread.
Alison Sweeney, host of NBC's "Biggest Loser," is also involved.
The contest is geared toward living a healthy lifestyle. The country is broken down into three divisions with a grand prize winner to be chosen in each division. Each grand prize winner will receive $20,000. Two others will receive $5,000. Winners will be chosen based on how many people vote for their essay.
"It was a contest put out by Arnold, Brownberry and Oroweat bread," said Estabrook. "I won my division. It was an essay contest on how you 'Feed Your Better' so it means: How do you take care of yourself? Is it diet, exercise? And have you done this and how long and what makes it important to you?"
She does a lot of contest cooking, and the website she is a part of had a section for non-food related contests.
"My essay has to do with fitness and eating right and also one of the ways I keep fit is through martial arts and it tells a story about how I got into martial arts. I do a YMCA class on beginner (Karate), I teach now, and I got my black belt just before I turned 65," Estabrook said proudly.
Estabrook found out she was a finalist in the beginning of December. She was elated and excited when she got the news. Her family and friends have been very supportive and excited for her as well. Online voting began Dec. 6 and will continue through Jan. 3.
"There is still time for people that know me and like my essay to vote, if they can go online to vote. It is one email address per day," Estabrook said.
You can vote at http://www.feedyourbetter.com/. Estabrook's essay is number seven with the heading as Barbara E.
