A judge on Monday adjourned the drug case against a downtown Rhinelander restaurant manager in order to give him more time to hire an attorney.

Randy C. Zadnik, 45, manager of Zadnik's Brick Oven Bistro on Brown Street, told the court he posted his $1,500 cash bond Sunday night and is working on obtaining counseling and drug treatment. He said he has not yet searched for an attorney. Judge Patrick O'Melia scheduled Zadnik's adjourned initial appearance for Jan. 22.

Also appearing in court Monday was Pedro V. Jacinto, 29, who is alleged to have sold methamphetamine to Zadnik on Dec. 11.

Judge O'Melia continued the $1,000 cash bond in that case and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Friday.

The two men were charged as a result of an investigation that began Dec. 14 after a person close to Zadnik contacted law enforcement and expressed concern about his welfare. Zadnik is facing felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and possession of narcotic drugs as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Each felony count carries a maximum possible penalty of 3 1/2 years in the state prison system.

Jacinto is facing the more severe felony charge - a class F felony count of manufacturing/delivery of methamphetamine under 3 grams. It carries a maximum possible penalty of 12 1/2 years in the state prison system.
