Man accused of assaulting a minor sentenced to probation, 45 days in jail
According to online court records, Tyler J. Young, 25, was sentenced in Vilas County Circuit Court Thursday after agreeing to a plea deal with the state. Young entered a no contest plea to a felony count of causing mental harm to a child, which was amended from a more serious felony charge of second degree sexual assault of a child. Young also entered no contest pleas to two counts of intentionally contributing to the delinquency of a child and one count of misdemeanor theft in a separate case.
Conditions of Young's probation include counseling, alcohol/drug abuse treatment and no unsupervised contact with females under the age of 18 who are not relatives. Expungement of the felony charge is available if Young successfully completes probation. He has until Jan. 3 to report for his 45-day jail sentence. He also owes nearly $1,900 in restitution for the theft incidents.
The sexual assault case against Young goes back to early 2012 when a 14-year-old girl told police that Young provided vodka, beer and rum to herself and a 15-year-old friend, then assaulted her friend. Young was 23 at the time of the alleged incident which the girl told police happened in December 2011. According to the criminal complaint, the two girls talked about other occasions in which Young provided them with drugs and expected them to "pay up" by having sex with him.
