Park City Credit Union opened in 1938 and the Rhinelander office was established in 2005.
What makes Rhinelander special?
There are so many great people and the scenery is beautiful. It is a gorgeous city and there are lots of options to shop locally.
What types of products or services do you offer?
PCCU is a full-service financial institution. We offer online banking, e-statements, Visa Debit/ATM cards, mortage loans, auto loans, personal loans, HSA accounts, identify theft protection options, savings accounts, free checking accounts, money orders, notary service, savings bonds, safe deposit boxes, wire transfers and we have partnered with FMS Financial Services to provide in-house investment services such as annuities, 401K's and more. In addition, we have partnered with Greenpath Financial to provide our members with financial counseling options.
What are some the challenges your business faces?
One challenge is overcoming generalizations about credit unions. We are a full-service financial institution and offer conveniences that other financial institutions don't offer. Credit unions are a people's financial institution where they have ownership in it. We can work with our members one-on-one when and if a time arises that they get in difficult situations, we customize solutions to fit their needs. This rings true with business owners as well. We offer customized solutions for business needs including checking and savings accounts, business loans and lines of credit, merchant service processing and unique marketing opportunities.
What aspect of your business makes you most proud?
We are owned by our membership, so everyone has a voice. Our staff is phenomenal and gives personalized service to every member. We are deeply rooted in the communities we serve and give continuously throughout the year.
What benefits can your business offer for consumers who buy local?
We have recently partnered with Buzz Points, a program where PCCU members have an opportunity to earn rewards when using their debit card. Our program gives extra points when members shop local. These points can be redeemed for gift cards or turned into donations for local non-profits. It is really a win-win-win, supporting local businesses, rewarding members and helping nonprofits. In addition, it brings business into the small businesses that a lot of times can not compete against large corporate entities.
What is your business relationship with the community?
We are a community-oriented non-profit financial institution. This means we are a partner with the communities we are in and have a vested interest in doing everything possible to help them succeed.
What makes your business stand out?
We give our profits back to the community and our members. We do not give our profits to stockholders.
What products or services do you offer that are unique?
We are the only financial institution in the Northwoods that offers the Buzz Points reward program. We also offer financial counseling and a Credit Rebuilder Loan. We help members find customized solutions to their needs every day.
What are your favorite restaurants, shops or attractions in Rhinelander?
We love locally owned businesses. Our partnership with Buzz Points allows us to help market the small businesses to members and communities. We have done events such as "Cash Mobs for a Cause" which drives consumers into these locally-owned businesses.
What is your personal relationship and involvement with the community?
I was born and raised in Rhinelander. My husband and I both work in and enjoy the Rhinelander area and my children attend Rhinelander schools. My family is involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and many other school activities. We also run a small resort in the area and are very proud to share the wonderful ways of the Northwoods and everything it has to offer with our guests.
Why do you think it is important to buy local?
Locally-owned businesses are the glue that holds our community together. When someone shops local, the money stays in the community and supports other local businesses and nonprofits.
Do you have any special events planned in the near future?
We will have Buy Local events going on throughout 2014 and beyond. Keep an eye on our website or Facebook for details of these events.
