Juergens had been scheduled for sentencing this week, but the hearing was taken off the Oneida County Circuit Court calendar after Juergens requested a substitution of judge. Judge Michael Bloom has heard the case up to this point. The motion for substitution does not indicate why Juergens made the request.
Forest County Circuit Judge Leon Stenz is the official who will oversee the Jan. 3 plea/sentencing hearing.
Juergens is currently in custody in the Oneida County jail on a $2,000 cash bond. He was charged in early November after investigators executed a search warrant at his town of Pine Lake residence and discovered a marijuana grow and several items police believe were stolen from the high school where Juergens had been employed as an English teacher. The School District of Rhinelander's Board of Education terminated Juergens' teaching contract last month.
The criminal complaint does not indicate what led investigators to apply for the search warrant, but law enforcement was involved in a suspected theft investigation at the high school in September. On Sept. 9, a woman serving as an instructor for a staff training at the high school on computer software reported her laptop stolen. According to the complaint, investigators found what they suspected to be that laptop when they searched Juergens' home Nov. 6.
Also during the search, investigators found a "sophisticated" marijuana grow operation with 66 suspected marijuana plants, items of drug paraphernalia, prescription medications (some of which were not prescribed to Juergens), and several items suspected to be stolen from the high school which included three laptop computers and laboratory equipment.
Following the search, Juergens was charged with two misdemeanor counts of theft, two misdemeanor drug charges (possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an illegally obtained prescription), and two felony level marijuana charges.
In connection with a separate incident alleged to have occurred on Nov. 5, Juergens is facing a charge of disorderly conduct for allegedly pushing a woman when she came to his residence to retrieve her keys and vehicle.
