"One of my specialties is painting on fondant or frosting," Reeder said. "This gives me the ability to copy other artwork or design my own. So, for the opening, I am copying the artwork of each student onto a cookie."
The cookies are simple sugar cookies. "I use food coloring much like an artist would use water paints," she said. "These are completely edible but are often kept as a memento."
Reeder's work will be on display at ArtStart's open house for From Start to Art Saturday, Dec. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the ArtStart Gallery, 68 S. Stevens St. in Rhinelander. The exhibition includes two displays, Masters of Art: University Student Art and The FishPrize Competition: Elementary School Student Art featuring work by students from Crescent Elementary School, Nativity of Our Lord Catholic School, Old School Arts and Learning Center and Pelican Elementary School. Reeder will create cookies based on the FishPrize entries.
The opening will also include the presentation of eight FishPrize student awards. There is no admission charge, and refreshments will be served.
