Hodag girls win GNC JV cross country meet, boys finish 3rd

The Rhinelander High School JV girls' cross country team placed four runners in the top 11 as they claimed the Great Northern Conference JV girls' title Saturday, Oct. 13 at Edgewater Country Club in Tomahawk. The RHS boys finished third in the JV meet.

Ally Godin paced the JV girls, placing sixth overall in a time of 18 minutes, 58.7 seconds. Alexa Paddock (7th), Haley Klaver (8th), Cheyenne Stafford (11th), Emily Babcock (16th), Emily Fortier (21st) and Megan Thornton (23rd) rounded out the scoring. Katy Grulke, Anna Engel, Amelia Fehlen, Taylor Preul and Schye Skinner also raced for the Hodags.

Eli Simon led the RHS JV boys, placing ninth overall (19:35.04). Trevor Young (10th), John Incha (14th), Drew Stafford (16th), Brevin Persike (21st), Kirby Kuehn (23rd) and Colton Fralick (28th) rounded out the scoring. Cal Erdman, Noriaki Yabe, Pete Furyk, Kyle Thornton, Nate Solberg, Lucas Fix, Mic Kuczmarski, Dylan Wendt, Matt Bloch, Andy Emond and Matt Anderson also ran for Rhinelander.

Hodag BMX club hands out awards

The Hodag BMX Club handed out it awards for the 2012 season Oct. 13 at a year-end dinner at the Northwoods Banquet Center in Rhinelander. Raven Sturtevant and Rob Deede were the female and male track champions for 2012. Deede edged out Eddie Bauer in a tiebreaker for the male track title. All three riders had 14 victories.

Placewinners in the age divisions were as follows:

Boys 5: David Houg.

Boys 6: Ashton Swaney.

Boys 7: Logan Miller.

Girls 7: Emerson Swaney.

Boys 8: Trevin Walkowski, Noah McCann.

Boys 9: Trenton Tallier, Travis Towne, Ian Miller.

Girls 9: Madesen VanOrder.

Boys 10: Bryce Dulin, Riley Bullard.

Boys 11: Eddie Bauer, Brock Walkowski.

Girls 11: Raven Sturtevant.

Boys 14: Skyler Walkowski.

Girls 16: Cassandra Walkowski, Casey Lafond.

Boys 17-18: Ryan Miller.

Boys 19-27: Rob Deede, Brandon Miller, Bobby Sheldon.

Cassandra Walkowski, Logan Miller, Noah McCann, Trevin Walkowski, Ian Miller and Bryce Dulin received "Iron Rider" awards for attending all 28 races this season at the Hodag BMX track. Ryan Miller was voted the club's rookie of the year. McCann received was name the most improved rider. Towne won the sportsmanship award and Emerson Swaney won the "rubberwoman" award.

JWMS soccer teams conclude season

The James Williams Middle School girls' soccer tea finished an undefeated season Tuesday with a 6-1 victory over John Muir Middle School. The team improved significantly upon a 1-0 victory against John Muir early in the season. Sydney Zettler scored four goals and had an assist for the Hodags. Albionah Sabani scored twice goals and had assists. Brooke Mork, Claire Arbuckle, and Emma Hjelle each earned an assist.

The JWMS boys fell to John Muir 6-1 Tuesday. Jonas Sabani scored the Hodags goal, with Richey Triplett and Joseph Schmitz earning the assist.
