The U17 Central FC Select Strikers girls' soccer team from the Portage County Youth Soccer Club (PCYS) won the Premier Division of the WYSA State League this fall. The team features the top high school girls' soccer players from central and northern Wisconsin, including Rhinelander's Gabbe Millot and Morgan Voigt.
The Premier Division is the highest league play available in the state for club soccer. The U17G Premier Division had 11 teams this fall mainly from the Green Bay, Fox Valley, Milwaukee, and Madison areas. The Strikers finished with a record of 7-0-2 to win the division over Neenah Velocity, who finished 7-2-0.
The Strikers are coming off of a successful summer tournament season. In June, they represented the state of Wisconsin at the Region II President Cup tournament in Overland Park, Kan., and won, defeating teams from South Dakota, Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois. They then advanced to the National President Cup in Sacramento, Calif. where they finished fourth. During pool play they tied both of the teams that advanced to the championship match. The strikers also competed in two local PCYS tournaments this summer coming out as tournament champions at both.
