Gov. Scott Walker announced Tuesday Bloom and two other judges who were elected last month will take the bench effective immediately, rather than on Aug. 1 when their terms were scheduled to begin.
Bloom, who was appointed Oneida County District Attorney in 2007, defeated third-generation Rhinelander attorney John O'Melia April 3 in a closely contested race for Oneida County's Branch II bench.
He will succeed Judge Mark A. Mangerson who announced in November he would step down from his circuit court post. Mangerson has since been elected to the Third District Court of Appeals in Wausau.
Bloom said Wednesday he will wrap up his work in the district attorney's office June 18. On June 25, he will be informally sworn-in as a circuit court judge and will begin a judicial mentoring process that will last several weeks.
His investiture, a formal swearing-in ceremony, is scheduled for Aug. 3.
Bloom's move from the district attorney's office to the bench leaves a vacancy that the governor will have to fill through an appointment.
Assistant Oneida County District Attorney Scott Moller has already indicated an interest in that position.
The other two judges appointed by Walker Tuesday will fill vacancies in Portage and Dane counties.
