The RHS JV golf team took second place in a pair of matches this week. The Hodags took second at a Great Northern Conference JV meet at Timber Ridge Golf Course in Minocqua Monday and at an 18-hole JV match at Trout Lake Golf Club in Arbor Vitae Tuesday.
The Hodags shot 206 in the nine-hole match at Timber Ridge. Jarod Lueck led the way with a round of 47. Matt Bloch shot 49, Tony Schlueter shot 52, Andrew Toms and T.J. Fritz each shot 58. Andrew Kurth shot 59.
Hunter Piasecki was the JV medalist on Tuesday at Trout Lake. Piasecki shot 92 on the day. Jon Konz was third with a round of 95. Bloch shot 105. Zaine Tischendorf and Alec Effinger each shot 110. Kurth posted a score of 130. The Hodags had a team score of 402, finishing 10 strokes behind team winner Northland Pines.
JV girls' soccer
The RHS JV girls' soccer team recorded a victory and a draw in its two most recent games. The Hodags and Northland Pines played to a 1-1 draw Tuesday. Emily Babcock had the goal for the Hodags. Babcock scored again Thursday and Amber Sheth also scored as the Hodags earned a 2-1 decision over Hurley's varsity squad Thursday.
JWMS track
The James Williams Middle School girls' track team took ninth out of 10 teams at a junior high conference meet Thursday in Wausau. Anna Sturzl had the best individual finish for Rhinelander, taking fourth in the 400-meter dash (1 minute, 7.90 seconds). Claire Hjelle was fifth in the 200 hurdles (36.29), Alayna Franson was seventh in the 1600 (6:02.27) and Marie Sandstrom was seventh in the discus (68 feet, 11 inches).
Franson, Kaitlyn Hilmerhausen, Sydni Scarcelli and Sierra Scarcelli took seventh in the 4x800 relay (11:28.90). Sydney Bachman, Franson, Allyson Seefeldt and Sturzl were eighth in the 4x400 (4:50.49).
The JWMS boys were at D.C. Everest for the boys' conference meet. Complete results were not provided before deadline, but highlights included a fifth place finish by Henry Kipper in the 100 and a sixth place finish for the team's 4x100 relay.
JV Track
Rhinelander was second out of four girls' teams and fourth out of five boys' teams at the Great Northern Conference JV outdoor meet Thursday at Northland Pines High School.
On the girls' side, the day was highlighted by a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 by Anna Engel (14.58), Alexa Paddock (15.11) and Alyssa Ellis (15.15). The Hodags added a win in the 4x100 with Schye Skinner, Cheyenne Stafford, Paddock and Jessie Swearingen (58.44). Rhinelander went 2-3-4 with Engel (30.54), Katy Grulke (30.69) and Stafford (33.38) in the 200 and 2-4-5 in the 400 with Yvonne Gardner (1:10.66), Stafford (1:12.07) and Grulke (1:12.13).
Morgan Blaser was second in shot put (26-8 1/2), fourth in discus (62-6) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (22.93). Gardner added a runner-up finish in the 800 (2:58.87).
Kody Blacyki had a big day for the RHS boys' team, winning the 400 (56.94), taking third in the long jump (15-6 3/4) and fifth in the 200 (26.61). He was also part of the winning 4x100 relay with Vince Berry, Nick Wright and Andre Johnson (50.80).
Nathaniel Sampson won the 200 (25.54) and took fifth in the 100 (13.09). Micah Roberts won the long jump (16-0 1/2). Randy Kubesh took fourth in the 110 and 300 hurdles (20.99, 51.11). Wright was third in the 200 (26.58), Bobby Powers was fifth in the 800 (2:32.30), Zach Breneman was fifth in the pole vault (8-6) and Brett LaBrasca was fifth in the shot put (33-0 1/4).
Rhinelander added a fourth place finish in the 4x800 relay with Powers, Paul Rickman, Mik Kuczmarski and Roberts (11:05.39).
