Track and Field
• The RHS track and field team fielded several JV entrants at the Northland Pines Outdoor Invite Tuesday. The Hodags finished second in both the boys' and girls' JV standings in the event.
The JV boys scored two first place finishes, John Michniak in the JV 800-meter dash (5 minutes, 25.67 seconds) and Roy Berry in the JV shot put (34 feet, 9 1/2 inches). Runner-up finishes were scored by John Incha in the 1600 (5:26.16), Andre Johnson in the 400 (59.26), Bobby Powers in the 800 (2:35.06), Brett LaBrasca in the discus (92-0 1/4) and the team's 4x400 relay.
Third place went to Nathaniel Sampson in the JV 200 (26.13) and Jordan Lundt in the shot put (32-1 1/2). Ben Eversman was fourth in the JV 100 (13.30), Paul Rickman was fourth in the JV 800 (2:37.06), LaBrasca was fifth in the JV 100 (13.64) and Skyler Kellog was fifth in the discus (74-3 1/2).
On the girls' side, freshman Morgan Blaser scored a victory in the JV 100 hurdles (22.03), added a second place finish in the shot put (23-11) and a fifth in the discus (50-9 1/2). Stacie Kemp won the JV girls' discus (57-9 1/2) and was third in shot put (21-8 1/2). Yvonne Gardner won the JV girls' 800 (2:56.80).
• The RHS boys' track team tied for fourth out of six teams at the D.C. Everest Invite April 27. Rhinelander scored third place finishes with Vince Berry in the long jump (17-0 1/2), Jayson Dahlquist in the pole vault (9-0) and Lundt in the discus (108-0). Sampson was fourth in the long jump (16-5 1/2) and Zach Breneman scored a point with an eighth place finish in the pole vault (7-6).
• The James Williams Middle School girls' track team took first at a meet April 26 in Merrill. Individually, Eva O'Melia was the winner in the girls' 1600, Alison Kubney won the 800, Olivia Bowman won the discus and Hallie Wright won the high jump. JWMS also took first in three relays. Haley Klaver, Sydney Bachman, Grace Linsmeyer and Wright won the 4x200. Kubney, Anna Sturzl, Alayna Franson and O'Melia won the 4x400. Daleigh Neveaux, Sierra Scarcelli, Sydney Bachman and O'Melia won the 4x800.
Golf
The RHS JV golf team competed in several events over the past eight days. The Hodags were second in a four-team meet at Rhinelander Country Club April 27, third in a nine-hole Great Northern Conference match at Riverview Golf Course in Antigo Monday and second in a triangular at Rhinelander Country Club Tuesday.
Jon Konz shot a 92 to lead the Hodag JVs during the April 27 match. Jarod Lueck shot 99, Zaine Tischendorf shot 101, Eli Simon and Zach Harder each carded 120s. Aaron Santer shot 148 as the Hodags posted a team total of 412 strokes, five strokes behind first place Wausau East.
Lueck shot a 46 to lead the Hodags, who shot 199 as a team in Antigo. Konz shot 48, Matt Bloch carded a 51, Harder and Tischendorf each shot 54 and Andrew Kurth 64. The Hodags finished 26 shots behind Northland Pines and 16 shots behind Tomahawk.
Northland Pines took the three-team triangular at Rhinelander Country Club Tuesday with a score of 381. Rhinelander was second with a 439. Lakeland was third with a 489. Lueck and Tony Schlueter each shot 104 to lead the Hodags. Matt Bloch shot 115, Simon shot 116, Kyle Loehr shot 117 and Tessa Bloch carded a 118.
Girls' soccer
The RHS JV girls' soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss at Northland Pines Thursday after playing to a scoreless draw with Lakeland Tuesday.
The Hodags outshot Northland Pines 12-9 Thursday, but the Eagles took a 1-0 lead to halftime thanks to a penalty kick goal. Rhinelander equalized the match in the 47th minute as Emily Arno scored off an assist from Daria Katchko. Pines would net the game winner in the 68th minute scoring on a shot in the box following a corner kick.
Sarah Babcock stopped all nine shots she faced in Tuesday's draw with the Thunderbirds. Lakeland outshot Rhinelander 9-6 in the match.
Boys' tennis
The RHS boys' tennis JV team took five of six contested matches against Medford Tuesday. The Hodags earned doubles victories with the teams of Kody Zimmerman and Jordan Kaster, Quintin Triplett and Colton Fralick, and Kyle Thornton and Will Ginnel. Aaron Bowen and Seb Seidel scored singles victories for the team.
