A Rhinelander man has been charged with helping his aunt with an alleged interstate drug trafficking operation.
According to a criminal complaint filed April 27, Andrew J, Yungerman, 26, has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit manufacture/delivery of THC (2nd offense).
The complaint indicates Yungerman's aunt, Barbara Elliott, 63, of Wausau, came to his residence outside of Rhinelander on April 25 to pick up a prefabricated plywood box that was to be shipped to Elliott's son, Jeremy T. Williams, 40, in the state of Oregon.
According to the complaint, Yungerman and an unidentified male placed the box in a truck and took it to a local freight company. They told the manager of the freight service the box contained wood to be sent to Williams to carve. The manager found the 260-pound box suspicious and, per company policy, opened it.
Inside he found six or seven pieces of wood and a large, black plastic container that was zip-tied and locked shut, the complaint states.
After discovering the container, the manager called police.
Rhinelander Police Sgt. Angela Mertz and her canine partner, Drago, responded to the scene. Drago alerted to the odor of narcotics on the exterior of the plywood box. Further investigation of the box resulted in officers locating $105,890 hidden inside an espresso maker box.
Police in Wisconsin and Oregon later conducted searches of Elliott's and Williams' homes where they found additional evidence of drug trafficking including $12,000 in cash, 24 pounds of packaged marijuana and an indoor grow operation.
According to authorities in Oregon, Williams told investigators that he grew the marijuana at his house and sold it to his mother in Wisconsin because it fetched a higher price here.
Elliott has been charged inā€ˆOneida County Circuit Court with manufacture/delivery of THC (conspiracy to commit). She has yet to make a court appearance but Yungerman appeared before Reserve Judge Conrad Richards Monday afternoon.
Bond in Yungerman's case was set at $1,000 cash and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 7.
Williams has also been referred for possible charges.
