Rhinelander Swim Club finishes regular season strong
Several swimmers finished in first place in their individual events. Jack Antonuk, 7, won the boys' 8 and under 25-yard breaststroke with a time of 27.43 seconds. Russell Benoy, 10, swam the boys' senior 100-backstroke for the first time and finished with a time of 1:25.23. Miranda Erdmann, 10, finished first in the girls' 9-10 100 individual medley (1:28.00) and in the girls' 10 and under 50 breaststroke (45.35). Grace Heck, 10, won the girls' 9-10 50 freestyle (33.65) and the girls' 10 and under 100 freestyle (1:14.85). Alexandra Peter, 16, swam in the girls' senior 200 backstroke for the first time and finished with a time of 2:59.29. Eleanor Schiek, 8, took first place in the girls' 8 and under 25 freestyle (17.82).
Three relay teams also finished with first place ribbons. In the boys' 10 and under 200 medley relay, Joseph Heck, Benoy, Thaddeus Heck, and Cooper Lindman teamed up for a time of 3:11.54. Tucker Lindman, Jacques Tulowitzky, Kole Gechas and Charlie Heck joined up in the boys' 8 and under 100 freestyle relay (1:49.39). Peter, Anna Catlin, Valerie Puza and Melissa Walenton joined forces in the girls' senior 200 freestyle relay (2:02.23).
Several swimmers dropped 12 seconds or more from their previous times. Annika Benoy, 13, took 12 seconds off her 500 freestyle for a new time of 7:08.57. Brodie Kasmarek, 12, took 12.22 seconds off her 500 freestyle (7:34.23). Cooper Lindman, 9, took an amazing 25.92 seconds off his 100 freestyle for a new time of 1:43.52. Trevor Marvin, 9, dropped 23.50 seconds in his 50 freestyle (1:52.67).
Some Rhinelander Swim Club swimmers will travel to Black River Falls to compete in the Central Wisconsin Swim Confrence championship meet Feb. 4 and 5.
