Special prosecutor to review police officer arrest

A special prosecutor will be appointed to determine whether a Minocqua Police Officer arrested early last Saturday morning should face criminal charges.

Oneida County District Attorney Mike Bloom said Wednesday Minocqua Police Officer Mark Ferencevich has appeared in Oneida County Circuit Court for a bail hearing and is expected back in court March 19.

Bloom said Ferencevich is free on $150 cash bail. He is prohibited from possessing weapons or consuming intoxicants while on bond.

The special prosecutor has not yet been selected, Bloom added.

According to the Minocqua Police Department, Ferencevich was arrested after officers were called to his home at approximately 3:40 a.m. Feb. 18.

Ferencevich was booked on suspicion of disorderly conduct (domestic abuse) and endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon.

He was immediately placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete, according to Minocqua Police Chief Andy Gee.

Ferencevich has been employed at the Minocqua Police Department since 2010 and serves as liaison officer for the department.

No further information on the investigation has been released at this time.
