If he posts bond, Shannon Wolf, 37, is prohibited from having any contact with the woman or being on any premises she is.
According to a complaint filed Friday, Wolf is charged with strangulation/suffocation (domestic abuse), first degree reckless endangerment (domestic abuse), negligent handling of a weapon, misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property.
The strangulation and reckless endangerment charges are felonies and Oneida County District Attorney Mike Bloom said during Wolf's bail hearing Friday additional charges, substantial battery and/or attempted homicide, may be added after he reviews all law enforcement reports and receives more detailed information about the alleged victim's injuries.
According to the complaint, Det. Sgt. Josh Pudlowski responded to Sutliff Avenue, near the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce, at approximately 9:37 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report that a woman was being beaten and stabbed.
According to his report, when he arrived on scene Pudlowski observed two vehicles and a male, later identified as Wolf, running from the scene. He also noticed a female sitting in the passenger seat of one of the vehicles, her hands covered in blood. A man was in the driver's seat of that vehicle, he reported.
Pudlowski made repeated attempts to stop Wolf from running from the scene but, according to the report, Wolf yelled at him "shoot me now" and "you're just going to have to kill me."
With the help of another officer, Pudlowski was able to take Wolf into custody.
The woman was taken to Ministry St. Mary's Hospital where she was treated for wounds to her right hand, left leg and shoulder. Her companion was not injured.
Officers later spoke to all three individuals about the incident.
The woman told the police she and her companion went to Ripco Credit Union to withdraw money when they noticed Wolf's vehicle in the parking lot.
After leaving Ripco, the woman said Wolf intentionally struck her vehicle with his vehicle as she and her companion attempted to travel on Sutliff Avenue. After both vehicles were stopped, the woman and her companion said Wolf shattered her car window with his fists and began stabbing her while she curled into the fetal position. At one point during the struggle, after he lost control of the knife, she said Wolf put her in a chokehold.
Wolf told police he went to Ripco to meet with the woman to talk about their break-up and was upset when he saw her with another man. He claimed the woman gave him the middle finger and her companion raised his hands in the air while passing him in the credit union parking lot. He said the vehicular collision was the fault of the woman's companion and initially claimed he pulled out the filet knife to cut his own wrists after the woman told him "she was finished with him and never wanted to be with him again." In a second interview, he said he "snapped" and stabbed the woman.
Oneida County District Attorney Mike Bloom asked for a high cash bond based on Wolf's lengthy criminal record and the severity of the allegations.
"We have a situation here where the defendant basically attacked (a woman) with a knife," he said.
Judge Patrick O'Melia called the allegations in the complaint "rather disturbing" and agreed with the state a high cash bond is necessary.
"It's a rather nasty set of circumstances and certainly warrants cash bond," he said.
Wolf is due back in court Monday afternoon for an adjourned initial appearance.
