In order to qualify for championships, swimmers needed to place in the top nine in their individual events and/or the top six in their relay events. At the end of the two-day meet, 34 swimmers qualified in one or more of their individual events, 13 relay teams made the cut, and one swimmer made a qualifying state time.
Several of swimmers placed first overall in their events. Jack Antonuk, 7, placed first in the 25-yard breaststroke (28.58 seconds). Russell Benoy, 10, had a great meet by taking first in all four of his events - the 200 freestyle (2:47.79), 100 breaststroke (1:38.63), 50 backstroke (40.54), and 100 backstroke (1:26.41).
Miranda Erdmann, 10, had a first place finish in the 50 breaststroke (44.98). Grace Heck, 10, placed first the 100 freestyle (1:16.10). Kirby Kuehn, 14, took first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.15). Marissa Martin, 8, had first place finishes in the 25 freestyle (17.36) and 25 backstroke (22.08). Alex Stevens, 8, took first in the 25 butterfly (24.39).
The relay team of Joseph Heck, Thaddeus Heck, Russell Benoy, and Cooper Lindman took first in the 200 medley relay (3:10.62).
Several swimmers also dropped over five seconds from their previous best times. Mia Becker, 12, dropped 9.3 seconds from her 50 butterfly (1:00.32). Aaron Fernandes, 11, dropped 7.39 seconds from his 100 freestyle (1:39.23). Brodie Kasmarek, 12, took off 8.1 seconds from her 200 individual medley (3:14.46). Trevor Marvin, 9, took 7.8 seconds from his 50 freestyle (1:44.87) and 10.68 seconds from the 50 backstroke (1:35.52). Erin Palutsis, 12, took 5.35 seconds from her 100 freestyle (1:34.62), and Lulu Spencer, 6, took 6.38 seconds from her 25 freestyle (34.45).
One lucky swimmer will be spending her birthday at the State Swim Meet at the end of February. Erdmann qualified for state in the 50 backstroke with a time of 38.66 seconds.
The Rhinelander Swim Club says good luck to all its swimmers traveling to Black River Falls this weekend.
