Is it a cold, flu, COVID or RSV?
As cooler weather moves in, many viruses begin to spread more easily. The Oneida County Health Department reminds residents that several respiratory viruses — like the flu, COVID-19, RSV, and the common cold — can cause similar symptoms. However, they are caused by different germs and can affect people in different ways.
In general, the flu, COVID-19, and RSV can make people feel sicker than a common cold. Colds usually cause a runny or stuffy nose, while serious problems such as pneumonia or hospitalization are uncommon. The flu, COVID-19, and RSV can lead to more serious illness, especially in young children, older adults, and people with certain health conditions.
Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to prevent serious illness. The Oneida County Health Department offers several vaccines to help keep you and your family healthy:
• Flu and COVID vaccines are available at the Oneida County Health Department in Rhinelander. No appointment needed. Walk-in hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional community clinics held throughout the county — follow the health department on Facebook, Instagram (@oneidacountyhealthdept), visit www.oneidacountypublichealth.org, or call 715-369-6111 for details.
• RSV and pneumococcal vaccines are also available by appointment. Call 715-369-6111 to schedule.
Together, we can help keep our community healthy this fall and winter.
