Parking lot duck draws attention

"I thought it was kind of nice to put a decoy in (the puddle) and see the reaction and it's been quite amazing," said Michael Denis, mastermind of the joke. "People would stop and not drive through the puddle, they'd slow down, they drove around him and it's been quite entertaining. I don't think they know (it's a decoy) because it looks pretty real."
Denis hatched the plan and asked his brother-in-law, Lee Bastian, if he had a decoy.
"I thought it was kind of funny actually," Bastian laughed. "I thought 'eh, it'll be cute, put a little decoy out there, what the heck, conversation piece."
He thought people would think it's funny and "get a kick out of it.
"I was wondering if anybody would even stop by, laugh about it, it was more of a joke than anything," Bastian said.
Within the first few hours of the duck's appearance it lured quite a few people to the puddle.
"I bet there's been 20 people already (out there) taking a photo of it," Denis said. "It's quite entertaining, it kind of breaks the boredom of the office."
As people took photos some were adamant it was real - until they crept closer. Others weren't fooled.
"I knew it was a decoy," said Dee Krause, who works the front register at ACE Hardware. "(People) stopped, they looked, they took a picture. It's been fun to watch them."
