The contest challenged area youth from home schools, public and private elementary schools, middle schools and high schools to write and deliver a speech promoting the conservation of natural resources and the protection or enhancement of environmental quality.
"It is always a very popular event and some teachers around the area have included participation in the contest as part of their yearly class curriculum," said Jean Hansen, Oneida County Conservationist.
The winners and their speech titles in all divisions follow:
Elementary Division
• First: Margaret Mouw, "The Spiny Water Flea"
• Second: Allison Zwettler, "Forest Management"
• Third: Trevin Walkowski, "Sea Lamprey"
Junior Division
• First: Grace Ribbe, "Save the Oaks"
• Second: Martin Hoger, "Stumped"
Senior Division
• First: Grace Hoger, "What is It?"
First-place winners in the Oneida County Speaking and Poster contest advanced to the North Central Land & Water Conservation Association (NCLWCA) Area Speaking Competition, hosted by Oneida County LWCD on Feb. 20, 2015. More than 60 adults and students packed the Oneida County Board Room to watch stiff competition in three divisions.
Local winners, their county and speech titles at that event were:
Elementary Division

Winners who placed first in the Area Speaking & Poster Competition advanced to the Wisconsin Land & Water State Competition held in Appleton March 9.
