The team of Kent Stadler and Doug Bloch chose Pelican Lake and that decision would prove to be a solid decision. The duo boated three fish on Saturday, two at 37.5 inches and a third at 35.75 inches. They were able to net two more muskies on Sunday, a 38.75-incher and another at 34.75 inches. These five fish provided them with a nice payday of over $7,000 and a total of 206 points. The nearest competitor scored only 125 points.
Scott Panko and Ryan Konopacky made up the second-place team. They chose Moens Lake as their target. They caught one fish each day, a 40-inch fish on Saturday and a 44.25-inch fish on Sunday. The team cashed a check in the amount of $2,650 for their efforts.
The team of Mike and David Abendroth rounded out the top three, catching two fish on Sunday. Their fish measured 38.75 inches and 35.5 inches. The two fish netted them team a check for $1,770. They fished Oneida Lake.
In all, judges measured 34 fish from 23 different teams. Saturday saw 27 fish boated. fifteen on Pelican Lake.
A total of nine northerns were caught over the weekend. Over $18,000 in prize money was awarded to the anglers in the tournament, which has a 74 percent payout.
No team was able to boat a 50-inch musky, which would have netted them an additional $15,000, the prize from Shoeder's RV and Marine.
Hancock Lake saw the largest musky of the weekend at 46.5 inches. It was boated by John and John O'Meara. There was also a prize for the biggest northern pike, from Shoeder's.
Park City Credit Union and Peoples State Bank sponsored the Hodag Musky Challenge this year as supporting sponsors. Quality Inn in Rhinelander was the host hotel for the event, hosting both the rules meetings on Friday evening as well as the awards banquet on Sunday.
