"It's really interesting if you look at when fish are caught," he said. "There will be hours and hours where no fish are caught and all of a sudden there will be five or six caught in a row."
A glance at the tournament board proved this to be the case with the majority of fish caught on Sunday coming shortly after the "major" started at 10:54 a.m.
The Eagle River Inn was tournament headquarters, with both the pre-tournament meeting and registration on Friday night and the awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon taking place there. Lunch was served directly before the awards ceremony and a raffle for some fishing-related prizes took place there as well.
Prizes were given away for the top 10 teams. One team that did not catch a fish and one team that caught a fish but did not place in the money would also win a $100 prize through a random drawing of boat numbers.
Big fish for Saturday was 46 inches, brought to the boat of Michael Wagner and Paul Sviatoslavsky. This team also took fifth place with 115 points from two fish measuring 35.75 and 46 inches. Big fish for Sunday was 44 inches. That fish was hooked by Justin Reynolds and Jody Scholbe, who also took third place in the tournament. They had two fish, with their other fish measuring 40.25 inches. Fourth place went to Mike Otto and Phil Schweik. The two had two fish, a 44.25 and a 38.25. Second place went to Bill and Gary Jacobs. This team held the lead in the tournament until the last hour of the derby on Sunday. They caught a 45 and a 40.5-inch fish. The winners of the Halen and Brad Wirt with a 44.25 on Saturday and a 42 on Sunday. That team won over $5,000 for their efforts.
This was the first time Paul Reidel, Jr., had a chance to fish. Reidel and his nephew, (Paul, Sr.'s grandson) Ryan Zimmer, not only fished the tournament but caught a nice fish on Saturday.
This was the first year Paul's Pro Am was run by the Headwaters Chapter of Muskies, Inc and it was a great success.
