Cyclist dies following three-vehicle accident in Pelican
A cyclist involved in a three-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon in the town of Pelican has died. According to the Oneida County sheriff's office, a call came in at approximately 3:41 p.m. Thursday reporting a motorcycle versus truck accident on County Highway P. The operator of the motorcycle, Charles S. Eye, 26, of Rhinelander, was transported to Ascension Saint Mary's Hospital and then airlifted by helicopter to a hospital outside the area. Eye later died of his injuries, the sheriff's office said Friday. The initial investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling eastbound when it entered the westbound lane of traffic on a curve and struck an SUV on its driver's side. The motorcycle then struck a westbound pick-up truck in the front passenger side. The bike came to rest on the shoulder of the road. No other injuries were reported. In addition to the sheriff's department, Pelican First Responders, Pelican Fire Department and Oneida County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
