A 19-year-old Eagle River man is being held in the Vilas County jail on suspicion of homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon.

According to the Eagle River Police Department, a call came in at approximately 11:42 p.m. Sept. 3 reporting a disturbance at 421 E. Wall Street in the city of Eagle River and that a male had sustained a gunshot wound.

After officers made entry, they found Connor L. Stephens, 20, formerly of Florida and now living in Conover, with a gunshot wound to the upper chest, according to a police department press release. Stephens was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to the release.

Jeremiah Fox Solis, 19, was arrested on suspicion of homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon.

Solis is expected to make an initial appearance in Vilas County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon.
