I, Mary T. Shriel passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 at the age of 78 due to complications from cancer and COPD. I was born to the late Bernard and Norma (Bellin) Schafelke on Sept. 19, 1939 in Appleton. I was raised in Appleton, a great little city back then and a safe, friendly place to grow up. I attended grade school, junior high and high school in Appleton.

My first job was at Zwicker Knitting Mill for five years, after which I desired an office career and took schooling in this field of work. I then worked in data processing at Collins Radio in Iowa for two years. On returning to Appleton I worked at S.C. Shannon Company, Tuttle Press/Artfaire and Paper Factory/Party Concepts until I retired in 2001. I lived a very full life, especially after meeting my soulmate, Donald Shriel, on New Year's Eve, 1969. We were married Sept. 17, 1970. I inherited two stepchildren with the marriage which I raised and loved as my own. Also, a stepson living in Michigan. Don and I enjoyed 47 years of a great marriage. We loved to travel, go camping, fishing and spending time at our cabin in the Northwoods. After retiring we built a new home and spent many happy times there. We traveled each year to Florida, New Mexico, Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada, visiting family and friends and all the states on the way. I have seen 46 of our 50 states, Canada, Europe, Mexico etc. Besides travel I also enjoyed reading, playing cards, puzzles, bingo and casino video poker.

I was preceded in death by my parents; a sister-in-law, Nancy Schafelke; two nieces, Toni Schafelke and Karen Robl.

I am survived by my husband Donald; our two daughters, Jo Ann Roman of Appleton and Edith (Greg) Riemer of Appleton; five grandchildren, Sarah (Bernie) Trapp, Kristopher Dean, Michelle Fieck, Josh Bohlen, Jenny Rose (Cody) Henson and five great-grandchildren; my four sisters, Bette (Ron) Bessett, Reno, Nevada, Dona (Carl) Robl, Appleton, Carol Wilson, Menasha, Anne (Don) Rowe, Appleton; my two brothers, Gerald (Suzie) Schafelke, Kimberly and William (Faye) Schafelke, Appleton. Also six nephews and nine nieces including my favorite niece Anne Marie Moore.

I have requested no services be held on my passing. A Celebration of Life open house will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at 201 W. Wilson Avenue, Appleton, Wisconsin from noon until 5 p.m.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Marshfield Clinics in Marshfield, Eagle River and Minocqua for all their good care. Also Aspirus Home Care Nurses, Renee and Teresa.

Simply Cremation, through Hildebrand Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501, 715-365-4343. Everyone is invited to light a candle, sign the guestbook, leave a photo or an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com
