Neil Jay Moore of Gleason passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 at Wausau Aspirus Hospital at the age of 79.
He was born in Tampico, Illinois on July 25, 1938, the second of five children of George and Clover Moore (nee Nielson). Neil met his current wife Barbara Young at a town meeting related to horse rustlers in Ashton, Illinois. They married in 1981 and relocated to Gleason a year later. There they farmed and were involved with horses their whole lives.
Neil is survived by his wife, Barbara; three children, Tammy Moore of Sun Prairie, Kevin Moore of Illinois and Gene Moore of Arizona. Neil is further survived by his sister Ellen Chapman, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Neil worked various occupations: carpenter, farmer, horse trader, humane officer for several counties, and served in the United States Marine Corp for 10 years.
Neil was president of the Northwood Mounted Search and Rescue organization, enjoyed deer hunting, farm auctions, and draft horses. Watching wild turkeys and deer and talking with the guys at Krist Oil brought Neil daily enjoyment.
The visitation for Neil will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 4 p.m.
Interment will take place at Yorktown Cemetery in Yorktown, Illinois at a later date.
