Bill married Janice Bergman on Sept. 1, 1962, and they celebrated 55 years of marriage this past fall. He was employed for many years with A&P Grocery and then owned and operated Jan's Country Bar. Bill loved to play cribbage and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed having a vegetable garden. Bill was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He especially enjoyed Memorial Day and Labor Day parties hosted in the backyard with family and friends.
Bill is survived by his wife, Janice of Rhinelander; his daughter, Sheila (Mike) Sievwright of Eagle River; two sons, John (Kelly) Schumann of Waupaca, and Kenneth (Irene) Schumann of Rhinelander; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanne (Joe) Papania of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and four brothers, Jack (Arlene) Schumann of Fall River, Pat (Kris) Schumann of Chicago, Jim (Sharon) Schumann of Fall River, and David Schumann of Madison. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mike Schumann; a sister-in-law, Arlene Schumann; and a niece, Kristen.
The family will host a celebration of Bill's life on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Taj Bar, 1540 Pueblo Drive in Rhinelander. Carlson Funeral Home (715-369-1414) is assisting the family and condolences may be directed at www.carlsonfh.com.
