Virginia Rose Edwards died at home on Nov. 18, 2017, with her family at her side, after a long battle with metastatic bone cancer. She was born May 23, 1931, in Rhinelander, the daughter of Alois and Eleanor (Blau) Palecak.

She grew up in Lake Tomahawk and then graduated from the Arbor Vitae-Woodruff High School. She then attended nursing school graduating as an RN from the Mercy Hospital Nursing Program in 1952. She returned to Rhinelander in the mid 1950s and went to work at the St. Mary's Hospital. Virginia worked as an RN in surgery and then was the OB supervisor for over 30 years, retiring on July 26, 1996..

In her spare time Virginia enjoyed gardening, puzzles of any kind, retirement classes at Nicolet, traveling, her breakfasts with her fellow nurses, knitting, sewing and gaming. None of this compared to her love of spending time with her children and grandchildren, at the lake or wherever it may be. She and her husband Billy were always at the grandkids event and you could always tell how much those kids loved their Oma and Opa.

Virginia married Billy Edwards on Sept. 26, 1953 and he preceded her in death on March 6, 2007. They enjoyed over 53 years of marriage and raised a family they loved dearly. She is survived by her two sons Dr. Gregory (Cheryl) Edwards and Dr. Jeffrey Edwards; her grandchildren, Geoffrey (Ann), Stefanie, Tierney, Ian and Claire, her great-granddaughter Lola, her two sisters Nancy (David) Gagnow and Kathleen (Richard) Malakuskie, her brother David (Grace) Palecek, nieces, nephews, other family, many friends and her special companion Huck. In addition to her husband and her parents, Virginia was also preceded in death by a grandchild Isak and sisters Emma and Helen.

A memorial service for Virginia will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Carlson Funeral Home with Chaplain John Uhlarik officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at the Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow later at the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery.
