Uptown girls: Holiday fashion show features clothing for sale at local businesses
By Kayla Thomason-
The event was also a fundraiser as Downtown Rhinelander Inc. is hoping to purchase new holiday decorations for the downtown business district.
"I think everybody really had fun with the fashion show," said Mary Taylor, owner of Lund & Taylor Bridal Gallerie and co-vice president of DRI.
Taylor said she hopes the event grows every year and that they can continue to add to the decorations.
Mary Ann Klucarich said the fashion was both fun and informative.
"I loved it, it was a great idea," she said, adding that she was pleased that the show featured clothing from area businesses and she got to see what they carry.
"I thought it was wonderful, I did not realize Trig's carried women's clothing," she said. "We do not have enough women's clothing shops around here."
Klucarich also noted that she loved the "Uptown Girl" theme the organizers chose. Rhinelander Brewing Company donated several cases of its Uptown Girl® 7-ounce shorty light beer for the event.
"I loved the idea (of the event of being a fundraiser for holiday decorations)," she said. "It'll brighten up the downtown, it will be beautiful."
Deb Shawl also found the fashion show very entertaining.
"I thought it was really fun, I really liked it," she said with a smile. "I really liked that because some of the things that we saw I didn't know we had, like Trig's. I didn't know they had clothes now and everything was really nice and fun."
Shawl didn't try the beer but she said she thought the bottles were cute and loved that they were tied into the theme.
"I'm excited for the brewery to be back in town," she said. "I knew the brewmaster from the original brewery so it's kind of fun to see it come back."
She was happy to know that the money raised through this event will help decorate downtown next year.
"I think that's wonderful (funds for decorations), I'm real excited about Hodag Park as well," she said.
Debi Lund is new to the area. She said the open house weekend was a good way to learn more about the community.
"I think it was fabulous," she said. "I've only been here since December of last year so it's a great way to see what type of shopping is in the area."
She liked quite a few outfits and thought the Uptown Girl theme was cute.
"I like the idea that businesses are really supporting themselves as opposed to expecting the government to always do it and doing things like this is a perfect way of doing it," she said.
This year's $1,000 grand prize winner was Robert Scarcelli.
