Elizabeth A. Kriesel, age 100, of Rhinelander, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017 at Rennes Health & Rehab. She was born in Wausau on March 23, 1917, the daughter of Casper and Rosa (Behrendt) Hornung. She moved to Rhinelander at the age of 2. Elizabeth attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School and was a 1935 graduate of Rhinelander High School. In 1943 she married Norman Kriesel; he preceded her in death in 1987. She was employed by Montgomery Ward for many years retiring in 1977. Elizabeth was employed there for 40 years and retired as the manager of the catalogue department. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary (Rodger) Szopa of Three Lakes and Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Cohen of Plover; two grandchildren Sarah (Joshua) Hintz of Stevens Point and Adam (Tricia) Cohen of Custer; six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, JoAnn Jentz of Austin, Texas; two sisters-in-law Ruth Schmidt and Alice (John) Hoffman, all of Rhinelander. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Casper and Rosa Hornung; stepmother Kate, husband Norman Kriesel, two brothers Edward (Elaine) Hornung and Raymond Hornung; a sister and brother-in-law Carole (Robert) Lowe and a brother-in-law Gaylord Jentz. The visitation for Elizabeth will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service.
Fr. Randy Knauf will be officiating.
The Committal Service will immediately follow at Northland Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions in honor of Elizabeth may be given to the family.
A memorial will be established at a later date for macular degeneration research.
