He graduated from Antigo High School with the class of 1961.
He was raised in Antigo where he was active with the Boy Scouts of America having served as a Scout Master.
On July 23, 1964 he entered the United States Army and served in Viet Nam until discharge on July 14, 1966. After service in active duty he served in the Army Reserves.
Mr. Knapp worked for the United States Postal Service in Antigo for 28 years. He retired in May of 1998.
In retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, riding his Harley- Davidson and spending time with family.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Randy) Engelhardt of Clintonville, Royola (David) Wenz, Florida; a son, John (Beth) Knapp, Rhinelander; four grandchildren Craig Engelhardt, Nicole Koenig, Trevor and Emma Knapp; a sister, Doris (John) Larsen of Weston; a brother, Tom (Paula) Knapp of Fulsom, Louisiana.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson in infancy, Jeffery Engelhardt.
A memorial service will be held Saturday Nov. 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Kindle, officiating. Burial with military honors will take place in Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
