Frances became a telephone operator in Tomah during World War II. She transferred to Bell Telephone in Rhinelander, where she was employed for over 30 years.
While living in Rhinelander, Frances met her future husband, Stephan Shalbreck. The couple were married in Menomonie. They made their home in Rhinelander.
Frances enjoyed playing the piano, and listening to Live from the Met on Saturday's. The Metropolitan Opera was very important to Frances. She loved to travel with her husband in their plane or by car to family gatherings in Menomonie on her sister's farm.
She will be remembered for the love she had for her family.
She is survived by her four children, John Shalbreck of Littlerock, California, Rosemary Shalbreck of Rhinelander, Stephanie (Evans) Robicheaux of Round Rock, Texas, Connie (Bill) Layton of Minoqua; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister; Betty Holden of Menomonie.
Frances is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stephan in 1986 and by two brothers and two sisters. The visitation for Frances will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. with a second visitation taking place Saturday morning, Nov. 4, 2017 at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service. Pastor Rick Goff will be officiating.
