Matt Michalsen, the unsuccessful candidate in the contest for the 34th District State Assembly seat in the April 2016 election, is expected to resign his seat on the Lake Tomahawk Town Board.

According to recent posts on his Facebook page, he has plans to leave the area.

Michalsen couldn't be reached for an interview but Lake Tomahawk town chairman George DeMet said Monday while Michalsen hasn't formally offered his resignation as town supervisor, he anticipates he will do so at a town board meeting in the very near future, posssibly as soon as the next meeting in early July.

"After that, we will most likely place a notice of the vacancy and ask for prospective candidates for the position to apply with the town," DeMet said.

From there, the choice of a replacement for Michalsen lies with him, supervisor Stephanie Sowatzka and town clerk Nancy Schneider.

Michalsen was first elected to the town board in 2015 and ran unopposed for re-election in April of this year.
