Labor relations commitee receives update on UW-Extension contract
A tentative budget shows the state paying $66,692 for the last six months of the year and the county paying $44,461, a $758 increase from the previous contract after 4-H Youth Development Agent Lynn Feldman received an increase in pay.
This prompted the supervisors to question where the additional money would come from. The county's finance director Darcy Smith stated it would come from either the budget or from the contingency fund.
"I would make a recommendation that we ask the committee to find that $758 in their budget," supervisor Ted Cushing said.
Cushing considered making a motion to approve the new contract, given the estimated numbers were the same as when it was presented, but human resources director Lisa Charbarneau stated it was only an update for the time being.
Supervisor Dave Hintz inquired as to why the county hadn't received a contract from UW-Extension already. That question was answered by Community Natural Resources and Economic Development agent Myles Alexander.
"The reorganization is throwing everything up in the air," Alexander explained. "Beginning July 1, technically a lot of the structure disappears and there's new structure. For example, we won't be in regions anymore. We start operating as a four-county area - Vilas, Oneida, Forest and Florence. Sort of like ADRC (Aging and Disability Resource Center). Then by the end of the year, they'll have talked with each of the counties to figure out what kind of service each county wants and we will be distributed amongst the counties in the area to meet those needs."
UW-Extension is hoping to have a 2018 contract drawn up by September.
