Edward James Anderson, age 76 of Rhinelander died June 22, 2017 at St. Clare's Hospital in Weston.

He was born in Rhinelander, on Dec. 2, 1940, to Archibald and Ruth (Raulie) Anderson. He is survived by his beloved wife Anne (Bauer). They were married in Rhinelander on Sept. 24, 1966. He is further survived by two daughters, Louise (Mark) Wells of Rhinelander, Mary (Trevor) Brooks of Oconomowoc, WI, and two granddaughters, Emily and Jacklyn Wells.

Ed was a 1959 June graduate of Rhinelander High School. In December 1959 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After Basic Training in Texas, he was assigned to the 31st Tactical Fighter Wing as a Flight Line Mechanic. Ed saw duty in California, Florida, Italy, Okinawa, Japan and Korea. While in Korea, he served at the 38th Parallel. Ed received an Honorable Discharge in December of 1963 at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida.

After returning home to Rhinelander, he was employed at Daniels Mfg.(Printpack) for two years. Anne was also working at Daniels at the time. They met and were married Sept. 24, 1966, six months after their first date. In August of 1966 he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service in Rhinelander, working there for 30 years, retiring in June 1996.

For over 60 years Ed enjoyed "Good Times" at the Anderson family cottage on the Wisconsin River. His grandfather, Edward B. Anderson, purchased the land in 1937 and built the cottage in 1938. In later years as main caretaker, Ed was always finding some task to complete - inside and out. He also kept extensive records and pictures on the history of the land and cottage. He and his sister Glenda were raised by their grandparents, Edward and Meta Anderson, and Ed had fond memories of time spent there as a child - especially fishing with his grandfather. This cottage was a big part of his life and is still in the family.

He also found time to golf for 40 years and was a member of the Rhinelander Country Club for over 35 years. Ed achieved 3 Holes-in-One and made many good friends in all those early morning games.

Ed was a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church of Rhinelander since 1955.

He is further survived by his sister Glenda Minton of Steelville, IL, three brothers Jeffrey(Carol) of Rhinelander and Florida, Michael(Judy) of Wisconsin Rapids, Timothy of Kansas City, and Anderson cousins, Mark, Kathy and Kevin - along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, stepmother Norma Anderson and brother-in-law Jerry Minton.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Miller officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday June 27, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Carlson Funeral Home and from 10:00 AM till the time of service on Wednesday at the Church.
