Jerry served in the Navy from 1955 to 1959. He received training at Great Lakes, Ill.; Norman, Okla., and Memphis, Tenn., before being stationed at Miramar NAS, California. He was assigned to the USS Lexington for a 6-month cruise to the Far East, Hawaii, Guam and Japan.
After his discharge from the service, he used his Navy training to start a career in electronics, first in Omaha, Neb., then he worked for Univac in Minneapolis, Minn., and after a short interval in retail, in Chicago.
The short retail interval was when he started a Sears outlet store in Clintonville, Wis. with his brother, Bobby.
He married Judith Burns in Chicago in July of 1971, but she passed away 6 weeks later from a seizure. In 1972, he met Vicki Hutchins and they were married in June of that year. They started a family and continued to live in Chicago for several years before moving to Florida.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Vicki, daughter Sherri, sons Jonathan and Timothy, and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife Judith, his parents, and his four siblings, Leslie, Maxine, Robert and Kenneth. He is fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews who remember his warm, sincere smile and laugh.
The funeral services for Jerry were held on 22 April 2017 at the Church on the Bayou, Tarpon Springs, Florida. He was interred in the Florida National (VA) Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
