Joseph F. "Joe Cat" Catalano

Joseph F. "Joe Cat" Catalano, age 82, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at St. Mary's hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was born Nov. 27, 1934, to Salvatore and Margaret (Sansone) Catalano, in Milwaukee. Joe graduated from Lincoln High School in Milwaukee. He married Diane Racinowski in 1957, she passed way in 1967. He later married Judy Koch in 1979, she preceded him in death in 2007. Joe was the owner and operator, along with his father and brothers, of Catalano whole produce. The Catalanos began selling fruit and vegetables in Milwaukee in 1884. He was also involved with several entrepreneurial ventures including Joe Catalano's Fruit Cups and Silent Radio. Joe was the first president of the Pompeii Men's Club (1967-1968) he was a member of the Italian Community Center and The Knights of Columbus. He also was the driving force behind the Park Catalano Square and Instrumental through the Pompeii Men's Club in development of Festa Italiano in Milwaukee.

Joe is survived by his three children: JoAnn Catalano, Gail (Tim) Capper and Joe Catalano; seven grandchildren, Amber (Jason),  Damon Frye, Jordan Bessa, Matthew, Melissa Clark, Gail (Andy) Wilkins, Tony (Tiffeny) Catalano; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher, Ella, Talon, Teagon, Alyse, Kameron and Reed; his sister, Marie (Joe) Gazzana, his brother, Antony (Mary Ann) Catalano and sisters-in-laws, Pauline, Phyllis, Ann and Pat.

He was preceded in death by his wives, his parents, a great-grandson, Brennan; his brothers, Vince, Ted, Sam and Mike; a sister, Bess, and a brother-in-law, Sam.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church - St. Joseph's site with Father Randy Knauf officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.
