The Lake Tomahawk town board held its regular town meeting Wednesday, July 12. On the agenda was a conditional use permit for Clark Thielig of Bitters and Bull restaurant, who was looking for permission to provide permanent outside seating and occasional live music. Several owners of neighboring businesses spoke up about employees and patrons of the restaurant parking in no parking zones and blocking doorways and private garage entrances in the area. They asked the town to address these issues and also had concerns about the noise should outdoor music be allowed.

Supervisor Matt Michalsen said he would speak with the owners of the establishment regarding the parking issues.

A public hearing on the conditional use permit was scheduled for Wednesday, the results of which were not available as of press time. However, the town set several stipulations including that the hours of entertainment be limited to no later than 10 p.m. on all nights except holidays when the hours could be extended until 11 p.m. The parking issue was also to be addressed as a stipulation.

The proposed parking lot and basketball court was also discussed. Again, there was input from many town residents regarding possible issues with a basketball court including safety of kids playing basketball as well as going back and forth to the court, basketballs hitting parked cars and the possibility of kids breaking into cars that are parked in that lot near the basketball court.

It was generally agreed there is a need for outdoor activities for kids and families in or near town. Several suggestions were made in lieu of creating a basketball court near the proposed parking lot. Suggestions included fixing the volleyball net that already exists, expanding Rainbow Park and/or creating a biking and walking trail to the park.

Town chairman George DeMet suggested the town start with a lot survey to ensure work would be done on the town's property and make decisions from there.

DeMet also said he looked at state statutes regarding the procedure for filling vacancies on the town board. Michalsen stated he would be announcing his resignation in August and his position would need to be filled. DeMet said the statute reads that the remaining town board members and the town clerk could appoint someone to fill the rest of Michalsen's term.
