Rhinelander Community Foundation awards grant to Tri-County Council
According to Rhinelander Community Foundation President Gina Heck, "this grant began with a $2,500 designated donation through the Rhinelander Community Foundation. Recognizing the important work that Tri-County does and knowing that one of the goals of the Rhinelander Community Foundation is to make other area charitable organizations stronger, our Board of Directors was pleased to match the original donation, bringing the total grant amount to $5,000."
The grant funds will support the operation of Tri-County's 24/7 shelter Lily's House and will add to local donor sources required to match many other grants received by the organization, according to a press release announcing the grant.
Tri-County Council works to provide a safe environment for persons in crisis. In 2016, they worked with over 520 individual victims including 71 children, provided 2,869 nights of shelter, and handled close to 1,000 phone calls on their 24-hour crisis hotline.
In addition, they provide support groups, personal, legal, and medical advocacy as well as community referrals for many social service needs.
In a letter to the Rhinelander Community Foundation, Tri-County's executive director Shellie Holmes said, "It is gratifying when we get this positive recognition from our community. Being a non-profit in a small town where donation dollars are shared with so many worthy organizations makes every dollar even more valuable. We are honored and humbled to receive a gift like this."
Over the next few months, the Rhinelander Community Foundation will be introducing the organization and its mission of facilitating charitable giving by awarding grants to charitable organizations and contributing to projects that impact the Rhinelander area in a positive way. Several funds have already been established to benefit the community, allowing donors to connect with causes that are meaningful to them. In the future, grants and projects will be awarded through a competitive application and review process.
The Rhinelander Community Foundation envisions the Rhinelander area realizing its full potential through philanthropy. The Foundation works to facilitate charitable giving and, together with our donors, enhance the quality of living in the Rhinelander community now and for future generations.
