There were no serious injuries as the result of the crash of a float plane on Langlade County's Otter Lake near the town of Elcho Monday night.

According to a press release from Langlade County Sheriff Mark Westen, a report of a float plane in the water, which had flipped and was sinking on Otter Lake, was received at 7:30 p.m.

Sheriff's deputies, personnel with the Elcho Fire Department and emergency medical services as well as the Oneida County Dive Team were called.

It was quickly determined the pilot was the lone occupant, had self-evacuated and was OK.

Westen said the initial investigation indicates the pilot may have failed to retract landing gear prior to setting down on the water.

The incident was also reported to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources due to the possibility of contaminants in the water, but it was determined not to be an issue. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident further.
