Northwoods Wildlife Center releases three red foxes

Three red foxes were admitted to the Northwoods Wildlife Center (NWC) in late May from Florence County. According to an NWC press release, a patron observed two adult foxes assumed to be hit by car the same week. NWC staff advised the patron to live trap the fox kits so they could be safely transported for further care. Red foxes co-parent young kits, if one parent fox has passed away the other would resume care alone through maturity.

Unfortunately, these kits were orphaned. Upon admission, the fox kits were of age and weight where they would be weaned from mother's milk. During their stay at NWC they received proper whole diet and enclosure enrichment.

They learned how to forage for their own food, climb, and remain appropriately adverse to humans. Once they gained quite a bit of weight and skill, they were released in the Chequamegon National Forest.
